Exploring Oahu

I can't believe 2 weeks are already gone. I've been trying to soak in as much of the island as possible.  A lot of people have suggested I should do some island hopping, unfortunately due to Covid, I don't think that will be possible. Nevertheless, I'm really trying to take in everything Oahu has to offer.  

Last week, I started with an Island tour, figured that would be the best way to know where I wanted to explore more. It was fun and there were actually some other tourist from Boston - go figure. It gave me a few highlights of the island that I'll explore further once I have a car.

Here are some highlights from the week:
  • Helicopter over Oahu - One of my most favorite adventures ever. I opted for a 60 minute ride with doors off. It was fun and breathtaking to see the island from high up.  My pilot was awesome and explained some history of the island as we were flying over. I had such a wonderful experience.
  • Maui Beer Company - Yes, I know in Maui, but I do like a good brewery (as evident from other posts) and the setup here is pretty cool. Its overlooking Kalakaua Ave so a good people watching spot if you sit by the balcony. I got a flight so I could try a few different flavors, with some of my faves being Pau Hana Pilsner and Big Swell IPA.
  • ShoreFry at the International Market Place - While ShoreFry has a few locations in Waikiki, the reason I enjoyed this location is that they have a deck outside with local bands.  The music was super entertaining and the drinks and food were great. They also have a happy hour which is definitely a plus. The drink I opted for was a coconut mojito, so tasty.
  • Dole Plantation - I visited this as part of the tour, definitely cool to see how pineapple grow and have a Dole Whip. I'm happy I went with the tour and checked this off the list.  They have a train ride that is supposed to be fun and a pineapple maze, but I didn't have time to experience either.
  • Snokeling - as part of the tour I went snorkeling in Laniakea Beach, so fun. I saw quite a few fishes under the water.  I really want to go on another snorkeling adventure while I'm here.
  • Other highlights that were part of the week - Eating shrimp from a North Shore shrimp truck, drinking Hawaiian coffee, snacking on lots of macadamian nuts, eating tons of poke, visiting Chinaman's Hat, visiting Makapuu Point, and just sitting on the beach reading a book and people watching

Hawaiian Adventures

I’ve been so bad about keeping up with the blog.  My schedule has been crazy with work and my afternoons and weekends are filled with activities and beach days.  It’s all been amazing and I wouldn’t change a minute of it.   Here are highlights and pictures from the rest of the trip in case you are visiting Oahu: Hiking - I went on 3 big hikes while here and learned a few things (i n case you’re curious the 3 hikes were: Diamond Head, Wiliwilinue Ridge Trail and Makiki Valley Trail) Always be prepared - my last hike was completely messy and muddy, I literally was covered in mud.  It rained 90% of the time I was hiking too so everything was super slippery.  I made it down fine though once I told myself I’m just going to get dirty and deal with it. Island Life

Destination 4 in Honolulu, HI more specifically Waikiki Beach.  To be honest a week later and I can barely believe that I’m here for a month (well now 3 weeks)!  When I arrived last Friday I was a bit shocked.  One, it was very busy (I mean what happened to Covid) and two, I was in a total touristy area and it felt like I was on spring break. I told myself it would take a week to settle in. That’s where I am now and feel right at home. My Airbnb is perfect, 1 minute from the beach, and has a little balcony which I use for my early morning workdays.  I get up around 3 am for work, but it's so peaceful outside with the birds chirping, so I don't mind it.   My first week has been really amazing... Being A Country Girl In Nashville

This week I decided to stay in Nashville. I basically just spent the week eating and exploring.   Highlights: Country Music Hall Of Fame - I’m not into country music besides a few pop/country songs, however this was such an nice experience to learn the history of the genre.  I loved everything about the museum.  It had so much background on the different artists, country sounds, and how the music became popular.  The rotunda was beautiful with all the plaques from artists that have been initiated into the Hall of Fame. Parthenon -  I debated on this one and whether touring inside would be worth it.  From the outside the Parthenon is magnificent and makes me want to visit Greece.  I recommend going and sitting in Centennial Park during sunset - you'll get some beautiful pictures.  After reading some reviews, I decided to go and tour the inside.
