Destination 4 in Honolulu, HI more specifically Waikiki Beach. To be honest a week later and I can barely believe that I’m here for a month (well now 3 weeks)! When I arrived last Friday I was a bit shocked. One, it was very busy (I mean what happened to Covid) and two, I was in a total touristy area and it felt like I was on spring break.
I told myself it would take a week to settle in. That’s where I am now and feel right at home.
My Airbnb is perfect, 1 minute from the beach, and has a little balcony which I use for my early morning workdays. I get up around 3 am for work, but it's so peaceful outside with the birds chirping, so I don't mind it.
My first week has been really amazing... I think the island life suits me. Here are some highlights and pictures:
- Waikiki Beach - Yes it’s super touristy, but it’s beautiful, the water is so blue and the waves are awesome for surfing.
- Diamond Head - Another touristy destination and busy. It is a short hike worth doing because the views of the ocean and Honolulu are incredible.
- Take a surfing lesson - I did (unfortunately no pictures), but so much fun, and a bit difficult too. I was close, stood up on the board for a least half a minute. Other than that everyone is so encouraging - I had a few people come up to me and call me a surfer even though I basically fell during most of the lesson. Hey, at least now I feel confident renting a board while I’m here.
- Sunrises and sunsets - Get up early and see as many as you can. On my first day here, I got up at 5 and walked to the Amelia Earhart Lookout point (on the way to Diamond Head) and watched the sunrise. Completely worth it. Also, find some spots on the beach and watch the sunset. I plan on seeing many more while here.
- Shaka Guide app - If you're just roaming around and don't want to take group tours, I recommend downloading Shaka Guides. They have different self-guided Hawaii tours, some are walking tours and others driving. I did the Waikiki walking tour so far and it was great. I learned so much about the history of the island that I wouldn't have known otherwise. I have a bunch of others that I plan on doing during my time here.

Kathy - aawww hopefully you get to plan a vacation soon! Thanks, I’ll definitely continue posting.
The breathtaking sunrise in the mornings must well worth the 3am alarm clock.
Have you tried any interesting Island drinks yet?
